Obituary of Marlin Robert Griffith
Mr. Marlin Robert “M.R.” Griffith of Silsbee, Texas, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at his residence at the age of 81 years, 24 days.
Mr. Griffith was born November 10, 1937, in Spurger, Texas, to parents Charlie Stephens Griffith and Nellie Jeffcoat Griffith. M.R. was a lifelong resident of this area.
He was a 1957 graduate of Spurger High School, where he excelled at basketball and baseball which earned him scholarship opportunities. M.R. chose to accept a scholarship to attend Panola College in Carthage, Texas, where he was primarily a baseball standout. After college, M.R. worked at some various jobs but found his place as owner of The Tin Barn in Silsbee. He has operated The Tin Barn for the past 31 years and enjoyed spending time with his patrons there, many became just like family to M.R.
M.R. loved hunting and fishing, also enjoying telling tales of his own adventures as well hearing about others’ experiences. “He had more deer stories than words in the dictionary.” He was also proud of his pool shooting abilities.
Above all though, his family and friends captured his affection and were very dear to him. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
His survivors include his wife, Leisa Griffith of Silsbee, Texas; daughter, Heather Richards and husband Jason of Kountze, Texas; son, Marlin Griffith II and wife Kasey of Silsbee, Texas; grandchildren, Madison Richards and Hunter Richards, both of Kountze, Texas, and Adilynn Griffith and Hudson Griffith, both of Silsbee, Texas; sister, Charlie Nell Hancock of Silsbee, Texas; brother, Sammy Griffith of Kountze, Texas; sister, Willie Mae Gilson of Silsbee, Texas; and his mother-in-law, Bertha Gallander of Silsbee, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Nellie Griffith, along with siblings Bertnie Willis, John Allen Griffith, Jack Griffith, Lucy Griffith, Billy Frank Griffith, Judy Touchett, and Cleatha Hare.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 5, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Farmer Funeral Home, located at 415 N. Fourth Street in Silsbee, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2018, at the Farmer Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. C.W. Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow at Turner Branch Cemetery, located on FM 1013, east of Spurger, Texas.
