Obituary of Sidney Parks

Mr. Sidney Taylor Parks, 87, of Silsbee, Texas, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018, in Silsbee. Mr. Parks was born January 10, 1931, in Silsbee to parents Bernard Parks and Maudie Ray Fuqua Parks.

Sidney was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. He avidly enjoyed gardening and tended a large garden and orchard. Each year, he found joy in generously sharing his crops with friends, family, and neighbors. Sidney was a skilled woodworker, making incredibly detailed replica log cabins that were featured at the ice House Museum in Silsbee. Additionally, he made multiple types of hand carved items.

He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and hobby farming. He raised and processed many farm animals, making homemade sausage, bacon, and meats. His family has many good memories of spending time with him at Toledo bend as he taught the children how to fish for perch. A favorite family activity was having fish fries at his camp on the Neches River.

Sidney served his country in the U.S. Army for 6.5 years. Stationed in Germany, he met the love of his life, Dora. They were wed in Germany before she came to America, where they were happily married for 46 years until her passing. Sidney will be greatly missed by many.

His survivors include his daughters, Jo Lois King and husband Charles King Sr. of Silsbee and Sidney Joyce Mathis and husband Jimmy Mathis of Silsbee; sister, Anita Leonard of Thornton, Texas; brothers, Joe Parks of Silsbee and Charlie Parks of Kingwood; grandchildren, Darby Mathis and wife Cyndy of Mauriceville, Christy Hawthorne and husband Ben of Silsbee, Stephanie Ozment and husband Garrett of Port Neches, Charles King Jr. of Silsbee, Cheree’ King of Silsbee, Michael Mathis and wife Josie of Silsbee, and Joshua Mathis and wife Rachel of Fred; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
